The Armfield Wall Mural Project

A number of our Armfield Club members have commented how impressive a mural depicting images of Jimmy Armfield and Blackpool FC would potentially look on the gable end wall. It is quite a large wall and ideal for a mural so we want to create something iconic that our great fans will be proud of.

In recent weeks we have been working with Blackpool Council, the landlord, a local artist and the Armfield family to come up with a workable solution.

The project timescales are uncertain as the wall obviously needs repairing to be made suitable for the mural and the project and design will require planning permission from the Blackpool Council.

That said time waits for no man or woman so we are pressing ahead with the mural design and would welcome any feedback / ideas from our members, BFC supporters and interested parties.

These sketched designs are purely some initial mock ups and not final designs, created with the intention of giving our fellow seasiders a feel for the kind of imagery we are hoping to create.

We would welcome your feedback in terms of these initial designs and suggestions in terms of what you would like to see. If you could send any thoughts / comments over to the e-mail address info@thearmfieldclub.co.uk we will feedback to the artist.

If it is feasible it has been suggested that it might be an idea to work up a shortlist of designs and then maybe conduct some form of vote amongst our members to decide which design we go with.

For clarity the gable end wall is the wall facing down Bloomfield Road in the direction of the ground which is currently draped in a large cross of St George from the 2021 Euros (which was supplied courtesy of one of our members).

We have also received some interest from local businesses about the prospect of incorporating some of their advertising which would go some way towards financing the project. On the initial mock ups the artist has left space at the bottom by the words ‘proudly sponsored by’ and this section is likely to be printed on to some vinyl panelling rather than painted.

The logic of this approach being that if the company / organisation only wishes to sponsor for a limited time period, then the vinyl can easily be replaced without impacting on the mural.

If possible in the next few weeks we will try to add new design ideas to this news story on the www.thearmfieldclub.co.uk website so check back as things start to unfold.

Let’s create something iconic that not only our fans but the whole town can be proud of!
